Project Colony Ship (my ‘87 Mercury Colony Park Wagon) is down until I find some obscure brake parts, and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is this weekend...
I’ve been considering buying !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! just to clean it up and take it to Radwood.I feel like a blue base model K-car wagon would be surprisingly popular, as it is probably now rarer than a lot of the other stuff there simply due to attrition.
I probably won’t end up doing it. But the temptation is real, and my partner was no help. She wants to still do our original Saturday plans, but is fine with me both buying the car and going to Radwood.

That car must go to Radwood, and you might as well be its caretaker.

It would be a star I think. A bit expensive as a gimmick for a weekend, but everyone has hobbies, and I won’t tell you how to spend your money.

$600 strikes me as high.

So many straight lines on it. Lovely. Don’t you want to take it home?

Would it be possible for you to also dress up like principal from Farris Bueller’s Day Off? His Blue Dodge Aries was a Sedan but, close enough right?

do it

At $600, you might be able to buy it and sell it back for a hundred or two more...? It actually looks really clean in those pics! Vastly shittier cars than that sell for a lot more than $600 around here! 0_o

$600 is only the asking price. Offer $400 and see where it goes. I’d drive that unmitigated heap of uninspired doodoo until something important breaks and then scrap it.

If you can afford it, buy it, tidy it up, and take it to Radwood with a for sale sign on it. Maybe you’ll get lucky and someone will pay you more than you have in to it.

As terrible ideas go, that’s a pretty good one. Do it.

A car that clean at that price? I bet you could flip that for a small profit when you're done.

Not in the rust belt. NP all day everyday.

You’re high!

WHERE IS THIS!?!?!?!
![]() 10/09/2019 at 08:14 |

Can Confirm this! :)
![]() 10/09/2019 at 09:19 |

Hell, buy it and list it for sale at Radwood. Instant profit.

The car is in Worcester MA. If you need to own it, let me know and i may be able to help.

Eww, Worcester.
![]() 10/09/2019 at 09:29 |

Probably NP. Hateful cars now, but back in the day, competent enough.

Need to own vs wife letting me own are 2 different things....

My mom had a Reliant K with a 2.2L and I think I got 35 mpg in it.
That rust thing... *shudders*

You really have no idea how much it changes EVERYTHING. My rocker panels are dissolving at an alarming rate.

Oh, but I think I do: if I didn’t, I wouldn’t bang on about it so much. My ‘97 Safari has nary a spot of rust anywhere on it. Nor my ‘71 Vandura. Only surface rust.

I don’t think you understand what it does to the market for older vehicles th ough. That’s why this wagon, and that old C20 I posted last week are such nice prices around here.
If you ever decide to sell your van ... either of your vans .... bringing them to the rust belt with easily double the value of them.
![]() 10/09/2019 at 12:46 |

Right; I gotcha. I wasn’t reading you in that light. Totally makes sense.
![]() 10/09/2019 at 12:46 |

So I could get $500 for my Safari instead of $250... ;o)
![]() 10/09/2019 at 13:31 |

Your Safari would probably sell for $3k, easily. But then you’ll have the problem you started this with ... what could replace it? Nothing.

Ford Transit or Mercedes Metris. $30k. Maybe in five more years when they’ve depreciated...
I never knew about the Metris before a response to this thread. I am very curious about it. Only comes with a four-banger, as far as I can tell... I may go out and waste a salesman’s time...

Did I tell you this? That 18V Dewalt cordless sidewinder is now one of my favorite tools of all time. I wouldn’t try and rip 3/4" plywood with it much, but for smaller jobs? I cut some half-inch OSB siding with it last weekend and it was perfect. LOVE it.
![]() 10/09/2019 at 15:05 |

Cool! Maybe I’ll consider getting one then.
![]() 10/09/2019 at 15:06 |

The Metris is an interesting packaging job. I have my doubts about maintaining one long term though.

I also bought a lithium-ion battery for it that’s supposedly rated at twice the capacity of the standard XRP battery and it has enough capacity that it’s not quick to heat up beyond what the charger will allow.

By the time I ever buy one, the maintenance track record will have been well established. Like in ten years...
